Victory Over Pirates Takes Kansas City to 56-19
|
Kansas City pitcher Rick Reed did his part in helping his team beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Reed, the winner, moves to 8-4. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 11 and giving up 4 walks. Kansas City leads the Federal League Central Division by 14 games.
One important at-bat came with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the top of the first inning. Facing Pittsburgh hurler Steve Trachsel, Barry Larkin, who finished 5th in the UL in batting average with .291 in 1987, hit a 2-run double. The Royals went on to win.
"The vibe's good," said Kansas City manager Daniel Drucker. "We've got to keep it going."
