Pirates Get Road Win, 4-1
|
Pittsburgh pitcher David Nied did his part in helping his team beat the Kansas City Royals, 4-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Nied went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 6, and struck out 4. His record improves to 2-6. Bryan Harvey was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 21 of 21 save opportunities.
Pittsburgh relied on the hitting of Bobby Bonilla to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Pirates on top, 2-0. For the game, Bonilla had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Pittsburgh manager Stephen Ginter.
The Pirates now have a mark of 41-34.
