Giants Lose, 5-3, at Memorial Stadium
|
Baltimore Orioles starter Dwight Gooden pitched a strong game against the San Francisco Giants at Memorial Stadium, leading the Orioles to a 5-3 win. Gooden, now 6-7, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 11, walking 1, and allowing 2 earned runs. The Orioles now have a mark of 30-46.
Pat Meares had a big 2-run single for the Orioles in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Baltimore leading 3-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a slider from Floyd Youmans and stroked the single to center. It was his 60th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Orioles ahead, 5-0.
"I got in a good groove," said Gooden. "I was getting some swings and misses."
