Red Sox Bang Out 8-4 Win Versus Chicago
|
It was a good time at Fenway Park, where fans came to watch the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox get after it.
Chicago got a terrific game from designated hitter Phil Plantier. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Boston, 8-4. Plantier was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Eric Plunk got credit for the win, improving to 3-6. He allowed 3 runs on 3 hits in 5 innings.
In the bottom of the fifth, Boston first baseman David Ortiz had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Ortiz stroked a 2-run single to left. It made the score 5-2, Boston. For the game, he went 3 for 5 with 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Brett Williams said.
Even with the win, the Red Sox have a dismal 25-51 record.
