Twins Edge Reds, 6-5
|
Cincinnati pitcher Joey Hamilton gave the Twins all they could handle, but in the end, Minnesota left Metrodome with a 6-5 win. Hamilton allowed 6 earned runs on 7 hits over 8 innings. Minnesota now sits in last place in the Federal League Central Division at 32-44.
The Twins got a big at-bat from third baseman Brent Gates. For the game, Gates went 1-4 with a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 20th double of the season gave Minnesota a 4-2 lead.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Gates said.
