Ramirez, Padres Humble Mets
|
The San Diego Padres had no problem beating the New York Mets, 19-2, at Jack Murphy Stadium. Manny Ramirez led the way. He went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for San Diego. San Diego starter Darryl Kile was credited with the win after throwing 79 pitches over 5 innings. His record now stands at 4-9. Today's win puts San Diego at 32-44, while New York falls to 42-35.
The Padres grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second. With no one out, Geronimo Berroa hit a grand slam home run off Jim Bullinger, putting San Diego in front, 9-0. For Berroa, it was his 4th home run of the season.
"I really like what we did out there today," Ramirez said after the game.
