Dodgers Lose to Tigers, 4-1
|
Detroit got a strong outing from Marty Bystrom as the Tigers defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4-1, at Dodger Stadium. Bystrom, now 4-7, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. Mike Perez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 7 of 14 save opportunities.
Detroit used the timely hitting of Gary Gaetti to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Tigers ahead, 4-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Marty is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Detroit manager Julio Izquierdo.
At 29-47, the Tigers find themselves in last place in the United League East Division.
