Athletics Take Tight Tilt
|
The Oakland Athletics got a magnificent performance from pitcher John Mitchell, who stifled the Detroit offense en route to a 2-1 Athletics win at Oakland Coliseum. Jason Bere, credited with the save, is now 13 for 18 in save opportunities. The winning streak has now reached 5 games for the Athletics.
The Athletics used some clutch hitting to beat the Tigers, a good example being the at-bat of Rickey Henderson in the bottom of the seventh. With two down, Henderson gave his team the lead, 2-1, when he hit a run-scoring single.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Oakland manager Jim B.
