Multi-HR Day for Martin as Senators Overpower Athletics, 7-4
|
The Washington Senators stopped the Oakland Athletics, 7-4, behind an impressive performance from Al L. Martin. The 26-year old left fielder made life miserable for Oakland pitching. He belted 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Todd Jones notched his 1st save in 1 chances. Washington is 24-54 and Oakland, with the loss, 43-34.
With Washington trailing 4-3 in the top of the seventh, Martin hit a 3-run home run off Oakland hurler Danny Cox. It was the 12th home run of the season for Martin and put his team ahead, 6-4.
"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Martin.
