Multi-HR Day for Burnitz as Royals Overpower Devil Rays, 6-3
|
Jeromy Burnitz made an impact in the 6-3 Kansas City win over Orlando. Burnitz, who is tied for 6th in the FL with a .941 OPS, was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Rick Reed got the win, improving to 3-3. He worked 8 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. Armando Benitez, credited with the save, is now 17 for 21 in save opportunities.
In the top of the first, Richard Hidalgo pounced on a curveball from Jimmy Key and hit a 2-run home run. It gave Kansas City a quick 2-0 lead.
In postgame comments to the Kansas City News, Hidalgo said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
