Baltimore and Seattle played a hard-fought contest at Kingdome.

Getting an impressive start from Steve Avery, Baltimore beat Seattle by the score of 3-1. Avery went 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2. His record improves to 6-4. Julian Tavarez notched his 6th save in 8 chances.

It could have been a different outcome for Baltimore, had it not been for Alvaro Espinoza, the 35-year old shortstop . Espinoza contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put Baltimore up, 2-1.

"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Baltimore skipper Daniel Ward. "I can't complain."

The win boosts the Orioles to 34-43. The loss puts the Pilots at 36-42.
