Senators Sneak Past Athletics, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Washington Senators and the Oakland Athletics, John Burkett was the difference-maker. The Washington right-hander earned player of the game honors in the 3-2 win. The Senators now have a record of 25-54.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Casey Candaele came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Oakland pitcher Bryn Smith, he hit a 0-1 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Washington on top, 3-2.
In postgame comments, Burkett said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
