The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 3-2, in Federal League action at Three Rivers Stadium, with Cincinnati pitcher Scott Bankhead named player of the game. It could have been a different outcome for Cincinnati, had it not been for Shannon Stewart, the 21-year old left fielder . Stewart contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the fourth inning to put Cincinnati up, 3-1.

"There were things that we could've improved upon," said Reds manager Eric Deutsch, "but all in all, I'm satisfied with our performance."
