Dodgers Lose, 2-1, at Jack Murphy Stadium
The San Diego Padres did just enough to secure a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Jack Murphy Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Ismael Valdez, who captured player of the game honors. Valdez went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. His record improves to 9-7. The last-place Padres lifted their record to 35-45.

The Padres benefited from a costly error in the bottom of the second. With Carlos Quintana at bat and San Diego leading 1-0, the Los Angeles miscue allowed San Diego to plate 1 and take the lead, 2-0.

"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Dave Ginter.
