Tigers Come Back Late to Clip Mets
The New York Mets got a sterling performance from pitcher Randy Johnson, but the Tigers still prevailed, 5-4. Johnson was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. Rigo Beltran, credited with the save, is now 11 for 14 in save opportunities. Even with the win, the Tigers have a dismal 27-53 record.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Jeff Barry came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing New York pitcher Todd Jones, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Detroit on top, 5-3.

"This was a good win," said Barry.
