Strawberry slugs 2 home runs to Pull Spiders to .500
|
The Cleveland Spiders topped the Cincinnati Reds, 5-2, in Federal League action at Riverfront Stadium. The player of the game was Cleveland left fielder Darryl Strawberry. Masaki Saito, who went 8.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 9 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 6. His record now stands at 10-4. Mark Wohlers converted his 9th save in 10 tries.
The game turned with no one out in the top of the fourth when Strawberry, who finished 4th in the FL in runs with 121 in 1987, hit a solo home run. It propelled the Spiders into the lead, 1-0.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Strawberry told the Cleveland Daily.
Cleveland now has a 3-game win streak.
