Piazza Impresses in Chicago Loss
Mike Piazza did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Chicago Cubs from losing, 10-5, to the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Piazza belted 3 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored three times. The win was Rusty Meacham's in relief. His record improves to 3-3. Mike Hampton took the loss for Chicago. The Cardinals now own a record of 39-44.

Brian S Giles in the bottom of the fifth had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 1st and the Cardinals trailing 4-3, the St. Louis left fielder hit a 2-run home run.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Adam Rabel said.
