Big Bang! 3 HR for Oakland's Pena
Saturday, April 26th, 1997
Fans are still buzzing after Oakland whipped the San Diego Padres by the score of 5-3 today at Oakland Coliseum.
Geronimo Pena smashed three home runs in the contest, a feat that would be a career highlight for most players and few fans ever see. In a tremendous performance, the second baseman bashed out 3 hits in 4 at-bats, had 4 RBIs and scored 3 times.
At the postgame press conference, Pena said it was an "unbelievable" feeling to hit three home runs in a game.
"Getting one homer is special, and two is great," Pena said. "Three is just... wow."
Geronimo Pena struck out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Doug Drabek in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Doug Drabek in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Doug Drabek in the 8th.
Thus far this year Pena has hit .192 with 6 home runs and 13 RBIs.
