2000th Hit for Strawberry
Thursday, May 22nd, 1997
"It would have been a lot nicer if my 2000th hit had won the game," said Darryl Strawberry after the Cleveland Spiders had been tripped up by the Kansas City Royals, 8-3, spoiling his big day. The Spiders left fielder gained access to the exclusive 2000-hit club by going 1-for-4 in the game played at League Park.
"The standing ovation by the fans is not something I will ever forget," Strawberry said to the press after the game. "I think even the Royals fans were cheering me."
His numbers show Strawberry is carrying a .248 lifetime batting average with 671 home runs and 1541 RBIs.
