Russell Fashions Shutout Against Tigers
Tuesday, June 10th, 1997
The Detroit Tigers struggled at the plate today against Rockies hurler Jeff Russell, who shackled them on 2 hits while hurling a complete game 2-0 shutout.
"What can you say? We didn't hit well," said Tigers skipper Julio Izquierdo in his postgame comments. "Hopefully we shake this off and bounce back tomorrow."
Russell finished the game with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in an excellent mound performance.
"He pitched real well," Colorado manager said. "Jeff made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively."
Russell has taken the mound for 9 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 1-1 record with a 4.45 ERA. The Colorado reliever has limited opposing batters to a .246 batting average.
