Delgado Whacks 3 out of the Park for Milwaukee
Wednesday, June 18th, 1997
Milwaukee Creams first baseman Carlos Delgado sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little.
Prior to the start of today's contest with the St. Louis Cardinals, Delgado told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times.
"During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber."
The big day from Delgado pushed the Creams past the Cardinals, 18-4. To go along with the homers, he collected 7 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Delgado told reporters after the game.
Carlos Delgado hit a two-run home run off Jeff Pico in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Steve Chitren in the 7th, was hit by a pitch in the 8th, hit a three-run home run off Bryce Florie in the 9th and walked in a run in the 9th.
So far this season Delgado is hitting .249 with 27 home runs, 73 RBIs and 48 runs scored. He has 68 hits in 273 at-bats and a .346 OBP.
