United League Names Gwynn Best Batter
Monday, June 23rd, 1997
The 37-year-old Arizona Diamondbacks right fielder might not have the spring he had in his step years ago, but the "old man" can still play the game. Tony Gwynn has been a reliable ballplayer, one who has worked hard to earn everything he's achieved and today he sits on top of the heap as he was named the United League Player of the Week.
He went 11-for-21 to rack up a .524 average with no home runs and 5 runs batted in this past week. Gwynn also scored 1 run.
A look at his current stats shows Gwynn with a .309 average, 3 home runs, 28 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He has played in 65 games.
