Veras Belts 5 Hits
Monday, June 30th, 1997
It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Quilvio Veras today -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at Comiskey Park and paced the Royals to a 15-1 win over the Charlotte Knights.
After his dynamite batting performance, the Kansas City second baseman told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control."
His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 6 tries and put his name in the record book. Quilvio Veras doubled in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit a two-run double in the 9th.
So far this year Veras is batting .241 with 3 home runs, 17 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
