UL Selects Valdez June's Best Starter Tuesday, July 1st, 1997 In June, Ismael Valdez tore through the United League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 23 years old. The young San Diego starter posted a 4-1 mark and an ERA of 2.05 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 44 innings he collected 42 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .169 average. In season stats Valdez shows a 9-7 record in 17 games, 122.2 innings, 118 strikeouts and a 3.60 ERA. |
