Johnson Fans 15 Padres
Friday, May 5th, 1995
Everything was working for Randy Johnson today at Jack Murphy Stadium. He had the perfect delivery. The ball was moving. The slider was working.
In an unforgettable performance, the 31-year-old Johnson fanned 15 Padres and sparked the Seattle Pilots to a 6-2 victory over San Diego. He left Padres hitters mumbling and muttering at the plate. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it.
"I don't know if there are many times that I've seen him throw better," said Seattle manager Robert O'Neill. "His location and command were really something."
In addition to collecting 15 strikeouts over 8 innings, Johnson allowed 1 hit and 4 walks in a superlative outing.
"I thought I'd make it easy on the guys today," Johnson said with a smile.
This year Johnson has compiled a 3-2 mark with a 2.63 ERA.
