Stewart and Abbott Suspended for Free-for-All
Saturday, May 6th, 1995
After an intense confrontation, both the Reds Shannon Stewart and the Yankees Jim Abbott were handed their punishments today. The league commissioner's office issued suspensions for an on-the-field conflict that occurred at a recent Cincinnati-New York game. Shannon Stewart will miss 5 games, while Jim Abbott was suspended for 6 games.
"Sometimes we go too far and have to pay the consequences," Shannon Stewart commented later. "Hopefully cooler heads will prevail the next time we play."
On the year Stewart is hitting .240 with 6 hits, no home runs, 3 RBIs, .286 OBP and has scored 2 runs.
For the season Abbott has compiled a 3-3 record with a 4.47 ERA.
