Friday, July 11th, 1997
The Padres and Yankees have been engaged in a little wheeling and dealing. They have just concluded a trade with 36-year-old LHP Mark Langston, 32-year-old minor league RF Darryl Hamilton and 25-year-old minor league RHP Rich Loiselle going to New York in exchange for 30-year-old RHP Andy Ashby and 25-year-old C Mike Lieberthal.

Langston has no saves this season with a won-lost record of 3-4 and 6.46 ERA.

In this current campaign Lieberthal is hitting at a .291 clip with 15 home runs and 34 RBIs.
