John Smoltz Out for 4-5 Months
Wednesday, May 10th, 1995
Orlando fans will be disappointed to learn that John Smoltz suffered a torn labrum while throwing a pitch in today's game. After the doctor informed the Orlando Sun Rays manager that Smoltz was expected to miss 4-5 months, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the starting pitcher could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.
To date this season Smoltz sports a 4-2 mark with a 2.48 ERA in 9 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .225 batting average and has 79 strikeouts in 61.2 innings.
