UL's #1 Player, Burks of Toronto Monday, August 18th, 1997 At the age of 32, Ellis Burks might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Toronto right fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .542 batting average. For his efforts Burks collected the United League Player of the Week Award. He racked up 13 hits in 24 at-bats, 2 home runs and 9 RBIs last week in 6 games. Thus far this season Burks has hit .286 with 27 home runs, 79 RBIs and scored 78 times. |
