White Rips 3 Homers Against Devil Rays
Friday, August 29th, 1997
The old superstition that "bad news comes in threes" certainly came true for the Orlando Devil Rays today.
Florida right fielder Rondell White tripled up on the home runs to propel the Marlins to the 21-0 win at Joe Robbie Stadium.
"We had our chances to win the game, but we just didn't come through," Orlando manager Ben Tennyson said. "White hit the heck out of the ball."
In addition to the homers, White collected 4 hits in 5 at-bats, 8 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"Easy swings get you home runs," he said after the game. "I kept telling myself not to press. They have to be nice and easy swings."
Rondell White hit a two-run home run off Eric King in the 1st, hit a GRAND SLAM off Eric King in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Shane Reynolds in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th and walked in the 8th.
Posting a .248 batting average to date, White has 24 home runs and 66 RBIs.
