In the twilight of his career, 37-year-old Tony Gwynn of Arizona recaptured some of the old magic last week and came away with the United League Player of the Week Award.

"I've been playing since I was a kid," Gwynn told reporters, "but you're never too old to feel the thrill of success."

Gwynn outpaced the rest of the league's hitters last week, reeling off 12 hits in 25 at-bats, 1 home run, and 5 RBIs to stake his claim to the award.

Presently Gwynn is batting .311 with 6 home runs and 56 RBIs. He has played in 117 games and scored 52 times.
