Boston Red Sox fans have long since given up any meager playoff hopes. The Red Sox made it official today, becoming mathematically eliminated from qualifying for the postseason.
The Red Sox have missed the playoffs 10 times in their 12 years as a Doubleday Baseball League franchise. This playoff miss is the club's 6th in a row, with their last postseason appearance coming in 1990. In the last 10 seasons, the Red Sox have missed the playoffs 8 times.
