Ashby Dominates, Whitewashes Pilots
Tuesday, September 9th, 1997
Andy Ashby of the San Diego Padres spun his magic on the Seattle Pilots today. He blanked them 11-0 on 2 hits, registering 11 strikeouts and no walks.
"The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," Ashby said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down."
Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, San Diego skipper Matt Dodds said the team "got solid pitching, good defense and took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations."
"Andy pitched really well but this was a solid performance by everyone," he said.
Ashby has taken the mound for 29 relief appearances this season, nailing down 1 save while notching a 4-3 record with a 4.68 ERA. The San Diego reliever has limited opposing batters to a .232 batting average.
