Minnesota Out of Time, Out of Playoffs
Thursday, September 11th, 1997
The Minnesota Twins have a new opponent: mathematics. The Twins still have games to play in their disappointing 1997 campaign, but the numbers say they won't mean much -- the Twins were today mathematically eliminated from qualifying for the postseason.
The Twins have missed the playoffs 19 times in their 21 years as a Doubleday Baseball League franchise. This playoff miss is the club's 19th in a row, with their last postseason appearance coming in 1977.
