Postseason Bid Ends for Cleveland
Sunday, September 21st, 1997
It won't be a season to remember for the Cleveland Spiders, as the club has officially missed out on the playoffs. The Spiders were mathematically eliminated from qualification today.

"With any luck, in a couple years we will look back on the 1997 season as an important stepping stone to a title," said Cleveland third baseman Kevin Mitchell.

The Spiders have missed the playoffs 18 times in their 21 years as a Doubleday Baseball League franchise. This playoff miss is the club's 10th in a row, with their last postseason appearance coming in 1986.
