Burks Sticks it to UL Pitchers Monday, September 22nd, 1997 A battle-tested Ellis Burks declared war on opposing pitchers last week, attacking the ball like the well-schooled veteran he is. Today the 33-year-old Toronto right fielder collected the United League Player of the Week Award. He wrapped up the week with a .440 average, 11 hits in 25 at-bats, 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 5 runs scored. This year Burks is hitting .280, produced 96 RBIs and 32 home runs, scored 94 times and gotten on base at a .363 rate. |
