Devil Rays Come up Short of Playoffs
Wednesday, September 24th, 1997
It wasn't meant to be for the Orlando Devil Rays this year. Despite a tough battle, they were eliminated from playoff contention today.

"It is a bad feeling," said Devil Rays starting pitcher Joe Johnson. "Once you get into the playoffs, anything can happen. But you've gotta get in there first, and we weren't able to do that."

The Devil Rays have missed the playoffs 13 times in their 21 years as a Doubleday Baseball League franchise. This playoff miss is the club's 3rd in a row, with their last postseason appearance coming in 1993. In the last 10 seasons, the Devil Rays have missed the playoffs 6 times.
