Darryl Strawberry Hits #700
Friday, September 26th, 1997
It was a great day for Darryl Strawberry, but not a good one for his Cleveland Spiders. The 35-year-old left fielder reached a personal milestone with his 700th career homer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Orlando Devil Rays, who came away with a 4-3 victory. Strawberry finished the day with 1 hit, 1 RBI and 1 run scored.
"Well, I've conceded the fact that you can't will yourself to hit a home run," he said. "I tried hard for the last few days. It was getting to be embarrassing with the crowd standing up every time I came to the plate."
Lifetime Strawberry is hitting .248 with 215 doubles, 59 triples, 700 home runs, 1593 RBIs and 1570 runs scored. He has appeared in 2192 games to date and delivered 2080 hits.
