Jones Gets No-Hitter Against Chicago
Friday, September 26th, 1997
Bobby J. Jones relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Chicago hitless in a 3-0 win at Wrigley Field today.
"Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter," he said later. "We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up nine runs but a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. I kept the Cubs off balance and guessing the whole game."
The 27-year-old starter rung up 5 strikeouts and 3 walks in whipping the Cubs.
"When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," Chicago skipper Anthony Perez said.
To date this year Jones has compiled a 16-10 mark with a 3.74 ERA in 32 starts.
