September's Best Rookie Named by UL Wednesday, October 1st, 1997 Yes, Matt Morris is just a rookie. But he is a special rookie. Today the 23-year-old Oakland starter was awarded the United League Rookie of the Month trophy for his standout performance in September. He dominated the rookie class, registering 4 wins and 1 loss in 5 starts with 36 strikeouts in 42.1 innings and a 3.19 ERA. Not bad for a first-year man. This year Morris has a 9-5 record with a 3.25 ERA in 14 starts. |
