Thome Slams 3 Deep for Kansas City
Monday, August 7th, 1995
Jim Thome went on an explosive hitting spree against the Boston Red Sox at Royals Stadium today, launching a trio of blasts to lead the Kansas City Royals to the 16-3 win.
The first baseman finished 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored and 5 runs batted in.
"It was just one of those days," Thome said in a postgame interview. "I don't know how to explain it. I'm just putting a good swing on the ball."
Boston skipper Brett Williams said Thome was "locked-in."
"We made some pretty good pitches," he said. "Those first two homers were exactly where the pitcher wanted to put them. He's just hot right now -- you've just got to tip your hat to him."
Jim Thome hit a solo-shot off Pete Harnisch in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Pete Harnisch in the 3rd, struck out in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Doug Bochtler in the 6th and was hit by a pitch in the 7th.
For the season, Thome is hitting at a .236 clip with 38 home runs, 88 RBIs and has scored 82 runs. He has 106 hits, 82 walks and a .360 on-base percentage.
