Gonzalez Hit String Snapped at 22
Sunday, September 11th, 1994
Luis Gonzalez saw his 22-game hitting streak wither and die today during the Chicago Cubs win over Orlando at Orlando Citrus Bowl. The 27-year-old left fielder was held hitless in 3 at-bats by the Orlando Sun Rays, but his teammates produced enough offense to take the game, 2-1.
"Am I disappointed about the hit streak? Maybe, just a little bit," a seemingly upbeat Gonzalez told reporters in the clubhouse. "But really, how could you be unhappy after you hit in 22 straight games? I'm just glad it lasted as long as it did. Life is good."
Currently Gonzalez is hitting .276 and has collected 32 home runs, 104 RBIs and scored 89 times, while playing in 143 games.
