Hit Parade: Voigt Pops 5 Hits
Sunday, June 22nd, 1997
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Jack Voigt, it came around today.
The 31-year-old right fielder scattered hits all over Ballpark of Louisville to pace the Tucson Tarantulas to a 19-5 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers.
Tacoma skipper told reporters in the press room that "Voigt deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Voigt hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Jack Voigt hit an RBI single in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, walked in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
For the season Voigt is batting .299 with 81 hits and 9 home runs. He has scored 39 times and batted in 48.
