Powell Will Sit Out 2 Games, Suspended by League Sunday, July 6th, 1997 Dante Powell of the Bluff City Beasties has been reprimanded and given a 2-game suspension for a shouting match with the plate umpire during a recent game at Aspinwall Grounds with the Buffalo Bisons. The Beasties center fielder said he didn't touch the umpire, but the umpire insisted he did. "I didn't see it, I didn't feel it," Powell said. "I was trying everything I could not to make contact with him. The league always sides with umpires. There is no use to appeal." Currently Powell is batting .351 with 3 home runs and 27 RBIs. |
