Savannah Blanked by Carpenter Friday, August 8th, 1997 Today was Chris Carpenter's turn in the rotation for the Columbus Clippers and he made the most of it, shutting out the Savannah Swamp Foxes on 4 hits. The 22-year-old right-hander led the Clippers to an easy 7-0 victory, allowing 1 walk and tallying 9 strikeouts. "I hope we miss him next time," Savannah manager said. "Carpenter certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."
