ATL Reliever of the Year Award Winner Named

He may only be 25, but Cory Lidle of the Hartford Whalers has already established himself as one of the elite relievers in the Atlantic.

The reliever was today named the ATL Reliever of the Year Award winner for 1997.

He won the award with a strong year that saw him put up 32 saves in 50 relief appearances and 33 strikeouts in 45 innings. He had a record of 2-5 to go with his 2.60 ERA.

He received 23 first place votes out of a possible 24. Tim Fortugno of the Buffalo Bisons finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Mark Petkovsek of the Hartford Whalers finished third.
