Reliever of the Year Award Goes to Ligtenberg

At the young age of only 26, Kerry Ligtenberg has been named the Pacific Reliever of the Year Award winner for 1997.

The future appears bright for the Portland Stag relief ace, who captured the award with 32 saves in 49 relief appearances, 53 strikeouts in 58 innings and a record of 3-6 to go with his 2.79 ERA.

He received 22 first place votes out of a possible 24. Matt Whisenant of the Spokane River Rats finished second in voting, while Tony J. Castillo of the Omaha Storm Chasers finished third with 2 first place votes.
