It was as good as money in the bank when John Wasdin took the hill for Savannah. He paid his club back with interest this season with a superb 11-7 mark, collecting the Atlantic Pitcher of the Year Award for 1997.
The Swamp Foxes star delighted the hometown fans with a fine 3.21 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 146 innings. Wasdin surrendered 136 hits and 23 walks and limited opposing batters to a .240 batting average.
