Shave Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 hits
Friday, July 14th, 1995
Today at Kernels Ballpark, Jon Shave put on an impressive display.
The Southeast Slammers third baseman tagged Danville pitching for 5 hits in 7 at-bats, but his teammates were unable to capitalize on the spree and lost the game to the Danville Dairy Daddies by the score of 6-5.
"The loss takes some of the joy out of it, but I'll take it," Shave said. "5-for-7 ain't bad in any league."
Despite the terrific performance, the Slammers manager was unwilling to offer his third baseman much praise, saying he holds his "whole roster" accountable for losses.
"Jon told me 'Coach, I had 5 hits' and I said 'Well that's great, but it looks like we needed one more from you,'" manager said.
Jon Shave hit an RBI single in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th, singled in the 10th, grounded out in the 11th and doubled in the 14th.
Thus far in 1995 Shave is hitting .311 with 5 home runs, 44 RBIs, 47 runs scored and has compiled a .347 OBP.
