The Doubleday Baseball League, in partnership with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, officially announces that the franchise will be relocating to Florida and rebranding as the Florida Marlins ahead of the 1996 season.

This move marks a new chapter for the historic franchise and introduces another exciting market into the DBL landscape. The relocation to Florida provides the organization with new growth opportunities, a passionate fan base, and a fresh identity as the Florida Marlins.

The Marlins will join the recently rebranded Orlando Devil Rays, becoming the second team in Florida, and further solidifying the state as a growing hub for professional baseball in the DBL.

“All of us are looking forward to this new beginning,” said a team spokesperson. “Florida represents a vibrant and competitive market, and we’re eager to build something special for fans across the region.”

The franchise’s operations, history, and records will transition with the move, with the Florida Marlins officially taking the field beginning with the 1996 season.

The league proudly welcomes the Marlins to Florida and looks forward to this exciting new era.
